Experienced business woman and former teacher Penny Wolff will be sworn in next week as the new councillor for Walter Taylor Ward.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner welcomed Ms Wolff, who saw the number of women in the 20-member team shift to two thirds.
“We are thrilled to have Penny join our team as we work to make Walter Taylor Ward even better,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Penny has always been a huge community champion and I know she will work tirelessly to help the western suburbs grow and thrive.”
Penny Wolff, along with her husband and daughter, have 35 years of history in Brisbane and are deeply entrenched in the community through their business and fundraising endeavours.
Ms Wolff has taught at many schools throughout Brisbane, including Indooroopilly State School.
Ms Wolff said she was excited about representing the residents of Walter Taylor.
“I’m incredibly proud to have been selected as the next councillor for Walter Taylor Ward,” Ms Wolff said.
“Community has always been at the heart of everything I do, and I feel so lucky to be able to represent such a special part of Brisbane.
“My background in the service industry has made me no stranger to the realities of this difficult climate for local businesses, and I am eager to support the thousands of small and family businesses within our community to thrive and grow.
“I’m looking forward to hearing more from local residents and community organisations about how Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and I can make the western suburbs even better.”
Former Councillor James Mackay also expressed his support for his successor.
“Penny’s involvement in community causes and support of Brisbane’s vibrant arts industry has led to a natural transition for her as a local representative for Walter Taylor residents at City Hall,” Mr. Mackay said.
“I know Penny will work tremendously hard for the people of Walter Taylor Ward and I look forward to supporting her into the future.”
