The Schrinner Council has delivered major upgrades to some of the city’s busiest bus stations to keep Brisbane moving.
Major works on the UQ Lakes station is now complete in preparation for the introduction of Brisbane Metro services later this year.
The University of Queensland Campus services around 20,000 passengers each weekday and UQ Lakes is part of the highest used bus service across the network in route 66, which will become the new Metro 2 route to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
The new station features state of the art fast charging infrastructure and will soon become a dedicated testing stop for the Brisbane Metro in preparation for upcoming services.
The project has delivered upgrades to the existing platforms, as well as constructing a new southern platform for suburban bus services and improved connections for pedestrians, cyclists, and e-mobility users.
Over the river, an upgraded Platform Two at the Cultural Centre station has also been opened, creating a smoother travel experience for commuters of all abilities.
The station features wider footpaths, more shade and public space, new cycling and e-mobility connections, improved accessibility and links to additional pedestrian crossings.
Work will now commence on the new Cultural Centre station Platform 3, and ongoing upgrades to the surrounding public spaces will continue until late 2024.
River travellers can also look forward to catching the latest double-decker CityCat, Tugulawa II, which will enter service from today.
The new vessel is the 29th CityCat delivered for Brisbane, the eighth double decker vessel, and the fifth to boast an upper deck shade sail, allowing commuters and visitors to experience sun safe river views.
The 30th CityCat vessel is expected to join the ranks in 2025.
