New Carindale Library to open March 29

Local residents will soon have access to Brisbane's newest and most modern Council library when the Carindale Library reopens on 29 March.

Cr Schrinner said the new state-of-the-art library will be opened to coincide with the completion of the Westfield Carindale shopping centre extension.

The new Carindale library will be located in a prime location right next to the revamped town square and will include a wide range of special features, including:

  • 2 community meeting rooms equipped with audio visual equipment, including lectern, PA system, TV screen, DVD and Blu-Ray player, projector and PC.
  • An extra 4,000 brand new books in the collection (total collection will be approximately 66,000)
  • 10 Apple iPads for residents to borrow and use within the library (Carindale will be the first library in Brisbane to provide this service)
  • 11 touch screen computers and 12 internet PCs
  • 3 xbox machines
  • Free WiFi access
  • A ’news lounge‘ with large flat-screen TVs and more of the latest newspapers and magazines
  • A separate section for kids, called ”Carindale Kids“
  • 3 self check-out machines
  • Greek and Chinese Language Collections

”The new Carindale library will be the most advanced suburban library in Brisbane by using new technology to complement the traditional library collection,“ Cr Schrinner said.

” Our libraries are a key hub for people of all ages and Council understands the importance of ensuring that library facilities are regularly improved to meet the needs of our local community.“

Cr Schrinner confirmed that Westfield has agreed to allow the library to continue operating rent-free - a saving of up to $900,000 per year for ratepayers.
