About Adrian
Adrian has served as the local Councillor for Chandler Ward since September 2005.
In April 2011 he was elected by his colleagues as Brisbane’s Deputy Mayor - the youngest in the city's history - when Graham Quirk replaced Campbell Newman as Lord Mayor.
He is also Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee and the former Chairman of the Finance, Administration and Economic Development Committee (2008-2012).
Adrian loves Brisbane and his local area and is working hard to help make sure our city and its suburbs are even better in the future.
Priorities
Adrian's top priorities for the local area include:
- tackling local traffic congestion 'hotspots' and improving road safety
- continuing to upgrade local parks, playgrounds and sporting reserves
- fighting for new bus routes and better services for local suburbs
- protecting our bushland areas for future generations
- supporting the great work being done by local community groups
- continually seeking feedback from residents on the issues affecting the local area.
Background and Qualifications
Adrian is a true local who was born here and grew-up in the south eastern suburbs. He went to school locally at Christian Outreach College (now Citipointe College), based on Wecker Road.
As a teenager, Adrian’s passion was flying and he spent many years working in his family’s small business to help fund flying lessons. He flew a light aircraft solo for the first time at the age of 17 and joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) when he left school.
Prior to his election he also worked as an advisor to a number of Local and Federal Government elected representatives.
His qualifications include:
- Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Government) - University of Queensland
- Graduate Certificate in Governance and Public Affairs - University of Queensland
- Successful completion of Company Director's Course - Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD)
Adrian lives in the suburb of Carindale with his wife Nina.
Civic Cabinet and Committee responsibilities
Following the 2012 Council election, Adrian was appointed as the Chairman of Council's Infrastructure Committee.
Prior to this, he served
as the Chairman of the Finance, Administration and Economic Development Committee between April 2008 and May 2012.
Together with the Lord Mayor and the six other committee chairs, he is also a member of Civic Cabinet.
Cabinet meets weekly to discuss policies and strategies in areas such as major projects, finance, urban planning, transport, environment and community services. It is in this way that the Civic Cabinet sets the strategic direction for Brisbane as a city and for Brisbane City Council as an organisation.
Civic Cabinet is chaired by Lord Mayor Graham Quirk.
Community Involvement
Adrian is actively involved in supporting and assisting a wide range of local community groups, including environment and bushcare groups, sporting groups, church groups and charities, Neighbourhood Watch groups and seniors associations.
He is honoured to be the patron of the
Brisbane Metropolitan Touch Association (BMTA), based at the Whites Hill Reserve, and the Square Dancing Society of Queensland.
Adrian is also a Vice Patron for the Queensland Target Sports Inc, home of the Queensland Olympic Rifle sports shooting disciplines in Gumdale.
He is a member (Life Subscriber) and former State Councillor of the
Australian National Flag Association (QLD) - an organisation aimed at promoting the importance and significance of our chief national symbol - the Australian National Flag.
